THE BASEBALL GAME, 2022. Cyanotype and animation.

The University of Massachusetts dining halls have 24 hour surveillance livestreams. During the school year the dining halls tend to be busy throughout the day. However in the summertime, in the middle of the night, they are often empty. The only motion to monitor is that of the TV screen, still playing a baseball game despite no one there to watch - except me in cyberspace. Captivated by this running game in an empty room, I took rapid screenshots of the livestream. The TV was far in the camera’s view, which made the photo quality quite low. I did a series of sharpening effects for each rephotographed frame of the baseball game - pulling the image closer, rewinding, retracking. The eyes have an instinct to look closer, catch the details, know exactly what is going on, but in the case of this baseball game - the farther away you view it, the more you can make out.
